Joseph Stalin said it best. The death of one is a tragedy, the death of millions is just a statistic. I am amazed at how fucking hypocritical we are as a society. Every year in this country hundreds of thousands of homeless people or people living in poverty die and nobody gives a fuck. But when one woman who hasn't had brain activity for fifteen fucking years gets taken off life support, everyone goes bonkers.

Terry Schiavo has been dead for over fifteen years. Saying that she was still alive is about as logical as saying that my clock on the wall is alive. Yes, her body was still working, but so is my clock. She has not had any thoughts or emotions for fifteen years. Removing her feeding tube is like me removing the battery from my clock. Yes, it stops running, but it was never alive in the first place.

What pisses me off is how the media manipulates this story around every which way because they want to make it as heart wrenching as possible, because then people will want to watch the news every day. I've heard that her husband who made the decision to remove the feeding tube just never loved her because he is currently living with another woman and has two children with her. Why don't we cut the guy some slack, he hasn't had a wife for fifteen years, not really. It would be different if he had gone out and started fucking other women they day after she went in the hospital, but it's fifteen years later. How long is the guy supposed to wait before he is allowed to move on with his life? I've also heard that he is greedy because of the million dollar malpractice suit he won. What the media doesn't like to tell you is that all of that money except for about $40,000 has been spent on her medical bills. People get so sad about how her feeding tube was removed, but nobody's volunteering to pick up the medical tab to keep her alive. The guy has spent almost a million dollars on medical expenses. If he were really just in it for the money, don't you think he would have just divorced her as soon as he won the malpractice suit and then kept the million dollars to himself? But he didn't, he has spent almost all of it on keeping her alive in a brain dead condition. And the media also doesn't like to point out that the guy could have easily divorced her fifteen years ago and moved on to somebody else, but he didn't. People like to rip this guy a new asshole, but I for one think he deserves a lot more credit. He never wanted to remove the feeding tube until he was told by doctors that she would never wake up, and he didn't just take the million dollars and run like he could have. I think this guy sounds like a damn good human being. And people like to give this guy shit, but the fact is, he had to make the most difficult decision a human being could ever have to make, and he took the high road, he didn't just duck out years ago with his money and move on like he so easily could have.

Another thing the media likes to do is show pictures of her when she was a vibrant young woman in her early twenties. They never show you pictures of her as she actually was for the last fifteen years, a vegetable. The fucking media has taken this story and they have used it to get ratings and that is fucking despicable.

And Jesse Jackson got involved too. He had an opinion about this too, so everyone better pay attention. I can't believe the nerve of that opportunistic, attention-craving son of a bitch. Did anyone else notice how Jesse Jackson never gave a fuck about Mrs. Schiavo until she was all over every news show in the country? But then she's big news, so who should show up to comfort her parents and tell them what a bastard her husband is but Jesse Jackson. It's amazing what a caring person he is when it gets his face in the news. If Jesse Jackson really cared about anyone, he would do it privately, not wait until something was a big deal nationally, then make a big fucking show of it. If I ever have some sort of family tragedy that becomes national news and Jesse Jackson shows up to comfort me, I'm going to spit in his face and tell him what an opportunistic son of a bitch he is.

But what pisses me off the most about all this is how people get their panties in a bunch because of this poor woman who has been dead for fifteen years for all intents and purposes. That million dollars I discussed was just what her husband paid. I don't know the insurance situation, but I'm sure the total cost of her care over the course of the fifteen years was far higher. And think of the total amount of care given her over that period, just so her parents could talk at her and blindly hope she would someday wake up, even though all the doctors said she never would. It pisses me off because how many people could have been saved with all that money and medical care she received over the last fifteen years? There's probably some little kid somewhere who needs an organ transplant who comes from a poor family who can't afford the operation, and he's going to die, and all this money and medical attention could have saved his life, but it didn't because the media and all the hippies in this country think it's just so fucking sad that this poor brain dead woman is being "judiciously murdered" or whatever new byword they've come up with now.

And besides, who the hell would want to be kept alive as a vegetable for fifteen years in the first place? If I am ever brain dead and the doctors tell my family there is no hope for me, if they don't pull the plug, after I finally do die, I will come back and haunt all of their asses. Even if she woke up, do you know how traumatic that would be if she woke up after being a vegetable for fifteen years? Hell, the last time she was aware of anything, our current president's daddy was in office. I don't know how you could live like that.

But she's dead now, so hopefully we can move on with our lives. I give the media about three more weeks sobbing over this great tragedy before they find some other person to exploit for the sake of ratings.
