Yeah, so maybe I exaggerated a little bit. It really isn't surprising at all to discover that Lance Bass is gay. Of course, every moron and his brother will tell you in the middle of sips from his Budweiser can that he could have told you that Lance Bass was gay from the first time he saw an N' SYNC video on MTV, but the fact is, pretty much everyone saw it coming. Let's just face it, his name is Lance and he just looks like someone who prefers the penis, and that's okay. What he does in his bedroom is nobody's business but his.

Here's my problem. In the very same People magazine article in which Lance Bass officially comes out publicly, he throws in a shameless mention of the sitcom he's working on in which he will play a :gasp: gay character.

How fucking predictable. I am so God damn tired of people in Hollywood cashing in on their being "different" as though it was a winning lottery ticket. The truly sickening thing about all this is that it's all done in the guise of "promoting tolerance" or "educating people about other people who are different from them" and the rest of Hollywood stands up in their tuxedos and bajillion dollar dresses that get thrown away the next day and applaud these people and then parade in front of the world as though their shit didn't stink because they're so much more tolerant and accepting than the rest of us. Any time you do anything in Hollywood about somebody whose culture or lifestyle is different than your own you're guaranteed to be put on TV and patted on the back by a bunch of self-righteous, politically correct ass goblins who then brag about what great people they are because they're so tolerant of other people.

Since Elton John came out of the closet, celebrities who talk about how difficult coming out of the closet is are just full of shit. When Elton John came out, there was a lot of open hostility and violence toward gays and for all he knew, coming out of the closet could have meant the end of his career. When he came out, it took a real man to admit to being a homosexual. A lesser man could not have done that. Now, when you come out of the closet in Hollywood, you're virtually guaranteed a kick start to an otherwise dead career. When was the last time you heard Lance Bass's name in the news before it had anything to do with him being gay? You can't remember? Me either. I vaguely remember him wanting to be an astronaut or some other such publicity stunt, but that had been awhile, he needed to do something to get his name back out there and resurrect his career. So now he's got his name in the news, he's got a sitcom where he plays a gay man, which is going to win him all kinds of awards because we always heap praise onto the brave homosexuals who have the courage to come out of the closet in a world that rewards homosexuals for being gay. Ellen DeGeneres got huge ratings for her shitty sitcom by leaking that her character would admit to being gay. Of course that gay buzz eventually died down and now she's stuck with a talk show on one of the shitty women's stations that nobody ever watches. Well, except women I suppose but who's counting them as a real audience? Then there's the Queer Eye guys who get paid to act extremely gay on TV. Let's face it, admitting to being a queer is a huge payday in Hollywood.

And it isn't just about being gay. Hollywood rewards all different kinds of people for nothing other than being a little different or being involved in tragedies. Christopher Reeve's career was dead until he had his accident. Then all of a sudden he was a bigger celebrity than he had ever been during his days playing Superman.

I have a subscription to Entertainment Weekly and in a recent issue they essentially named Jessica Alba as their "It" girl. Why? The article explaining it even admitted how utterly absurd it sounds for her to be so famous when all she's done is be hot and get a part in Dark Angel, which lasted on the air for about ten minutes. Other than that, what has she done? Nothing. Their explanation for her popularity was that she is representative of the changing demographic in America. In other words, her parents were different races, therefore we're going to heap praise on her for having the courage to be born to an interracial couple. Don't get me wrong, I'd do her, but the fact that she's famous for nothing other than being multiracial irks me to no end.

Eminem has made an entire career out of being a white rapper who bitches about being treated differently as a white rapper yet reminds us he's white in every fucking song. Lance Armstrong, while admittedly dominant in his sport, cashed in on his cancer to up his celebrity status. If you disagree with me on that one, name one other professional cyclist. Unless you actually pay attention to cycling, you probably can't do it. The fact is, if he'd never had his battle with cancer, even if he had won all those races, most people never would have heard of him and he wouldn't have made nearly the amount of money he did with endorsements. Speaking of "sports" with only a couple participants the average Joe can name, Dale Earnhardt Jr. shot up the celebrity totem pole because his dad died while driving in a NASCAR race. And don't even get me started on Halle "I didn't win my Oscar for calling the Academy racists" Berry. The fact is, Hollywood rewards people for cashing in on racial, ethnic, orientation or other differences, or for cashing in on personal or world tragedies (911 movies anyone?) and it's disgusting.

The most despicable part of all is that people cash in their big paydays and laugh all the way to the bank while pretending they're doing all this to "help educate the masses." The fact is, people don't give a rat's ass about education coming from people making seven figures a year to be on TV. People aren't going to be more tolerant of gay people just because one of the guys from a shitty boy band is gay. The only way people learn tolerance and respect for other groups of people is actually meeting them in their own lives. If someone is prejudiced against gays, Lance Bass coming out of the closet isn't going to mean two shits to them. For them to change their mind about homosexuals, they're going to have to meet a gay person in real life and get to know them and see that they're people too. The way you learn about people different from you is by interacting with them, not by watching them on your TV screen. Not that any of this matters to Lance Bass, he got his name back on TV, mission accomplished.
